Facebook “f”Logo CMYK / .ai da Vinci joins surgery team L ake Regional Health System now has the da Vinci X robotic surgery system. Urologist Eric McQueary, D.O., uses the da Vinci to provide minimally invasive surgeries for prostate cancer, kidney cancer and uri- nary tract conditions. The da Vinci system provides a magnified view inside the body, so Dr. McQueary sees in much greater detail. The system also enables him to reach more places. It has tiny instruments that bend and rotate far better than the human hand. These instruments also minimize hand tremors. Dr. McQueary is present with patients throughout their procedures, and he makes the da Vinci’s instruments move. “I control the instruments as extensions of my hands,” he says. The potential benefits of da Vinci surgeries include shorter recovery times, less pain — so less pain medication — and minimal scarring. Imaging Center adds 3-D mammo T he most effective test for detecting breast cancer is now at Lake Regional Imaging Center. 3-D mammograms provide clearer im- ages from several angles, so they show smaller cancers at an earlier stage. “Women may not need chemotherapy if the cancer is caught early enough, and their chances are better for a full recovery,” Lake Regional Radiologist Michael Vierra, M.D., says. Another benefit: 3-D mammograms make it less likely that women will be alarmed unnecessarily. The more detailed imaging reduces the chance that the test will indicate cancer when no cancer is present. The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 45 to 54 get mammograms every year. Women 55 and older may choose to switch to every two years. To schedule your 3-D mammogram, call 573-348-6161 . A HELPING HAND Learn more about da Vinci surgeries at lakeregional.com/davinci .
