Ch nese: 注意：如果您使用繁體中文，您可以免費獲得語言援助服務。請致電 -573- 48-8710 (TTY: 1-800-735-2966). 2 | Winter 2018 LAKE REGIONAL NEWS Lake Regional now provides hospice care L ake Regional Hospice celebrated its opening with a ribbon cutting on Nov. 7. “Lake Regional is the only agency in the area that provides both home health and hospice services,” says Jill Wilke, director of Lake Regional Palliative Care, Home Health & Hospice. “If a patient moves from home health to hospice, we can continue their care with the same caregivers they have come to know and trust.” Patients in hospice are no longer seeking treatment to cure their illnesses; instead, care focuses on managing symptoms, such as pain, shortness of breath and nausea. “Enrolling in hospice does not mean giving up hope or all treat- ment,” Wilke says. “Hopes may shift and change, and the hospice team will be there to support patients and families through these changes.” Come to Lake Regional for your lung cancer screening S urviving lung cancer depends on catching it early, and catching it early is difficult to do without screening. That’s why Medicare covers an annual low-dose CT scan for people age 55 to 77 who have a history of heavy smoking and who smoke now or have quit within the past 15 years. “We know there are hundreds of people in our area who need this screening,” says Lake Regional Radiologist Michael Vierra, M.D. “We want to reach those people with what could be lifesaving information.” At Lake Regional Imaging Center, the screen- ing is done with a new low-dose, 128-slice scanner that captures exceptional detail at a high scan speed, delivering better images with fewer rescans. If the screening identifies an area of concern, Lake Regional Pulmonologist Harjyot “Joe” Sohal, M.D., can perform endobronchial ultrasound, also called EBUS. This procedure makes it possible to collect precise samples with- out invasive surgery. If you are interested, discuss lung cancer screening with your doctor.
